About School
St. John's School under the stewardship of its founder Rt. Rev. Dr. G.
Rajakumar came into existence barely 40 years ago in the city of
Chennai (then Madras) in the locality of Mylapore (Mandavelli) known
for the intellectual crowd. The School which had started with 45
students in the year 1968 has now grown into St. John's Group of
Schools with more than 10,000 students and 500 academic faculty and
more then 1000 non-teaching staff.
This School, the proud offshoot of St. John's Group was dedicated to
the nation in July 1993 in commemoration of the Silver Jubilee Year of
St. John's banner. The school, which started functioning since July
1993, has now grown in all spheres of educational endeavor and today
it stands as a prominent landmark in the educational map of India.
Today it has students from all the States of India and also from all
over the world - like Srilanka, Maldives, Bangladesh, Ghana, Gulf
Countries, Canada, Singapore, Malaysia, Mauritius, Angola, Indonesia,
Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Korea, United Arab Emirates, Bhutan and Nepal.
School Campus
The school is located on the outskirts of Chennai. It is spread over an area of 21 acres. The total built up area is 1,06,000 sq. ft. The school building, hostel block and playgrounds are set apart on three different ground levels. The school block gives an institutional outlook with spacious corridors, students corners, display and bulletin areas. There are regular spacious class rooms, laboratories, library, computer centre, audio visual room, art education room, sports room and gymnasium. A well designed, well ventilated multipurpose hall is the centre of all cultural activities and social gatherings. It is also used as the indoor games hall. Spacious dormitories and rooms, luggage rooms, recreation and reading rooms, department store and a 20 bed hospital are all within the school campus.
Affiliation
The school follows the internationally recognized CBSE curriculum and provides curriculum of learning as recommended by NCERT in accordance with the norms of CBSE from IV Class to XII Class. Medium of instruction is English. IV Class to VII Class follow three language formula; IX and X follow two language formula and in XI & XII language study is optional.
Admission
Parents can email or write or fax to the office of
Senior Principal to know about the School and to clarify any specific
needs or doubts. On receipt of such enquiry the school will forward a
set of Pre-Application form and Information Brochure giving all the
preliminary details. Immediately on receipt of the filled up
pre-application form along with the Application & Prospectus fee you
will be sent the full set of Application & Prospectus.
Written Entrance Test is the main and primary requisite for the
selection process and procedures. Only those candidates who have
registered their application will be eligible to sit for the Written
Entrance Test followed by Personal Interview. Written test and
Interview of students & Parents are conducted on the day when the
candidate is called for Entrance Test.
Written Entrance Test and Personal Interview are conducted during the
month of March, April and May on alternative Saturdays.
Extra Curricular Activities
The school provides ample opportunities for the students to engage themselves in a wide variety of extra curricular activities like the School Band, Nature Club and club activities like English Literary Club, Photography Club, Science Club, Computer Science Club and Fine Arts Club. Students are trained in gardening, cookery, house keeping, making useful domestic items, electrical gadgets and their repair, screen printing and clay modelling.
Sports Activities
In order to ensure the development of the total
personality of the student, the school provides ample opportunities to
develop the physical and mental ability of the students and engage
them in a wide variety of extra curricular activities around the world
of sports.
All the Major and Minor games are taught to the children and the
students are made familiar with all the popular and standard games. In
the regular Physical Training classes the boys are given opportunities
to have a feel of the important games in rotation.
Students are given the freedom to choose 3 games / sports of their
choices in one academic year which are registered in the Games Option
Slip.
