New Era High School (Panchgani)
About School
From a hostel for Bahai children established on 1st August 1945 with
sixteen children, New Era has grown into a leading international,
educational institution. It is under the supervision of the National
Spiritual Assembly of the Bahais of India (main office, New Delhi).
The diversity of the student body, with over 800 girls and boys coming
from 25 countries, most states of India and all religious backgrounds,
ensures that the children learn to appreciate and respect differences
in the beliefs, race and nationality of others. Thus the school tries
to be an example of Baha?u?llah?s teaching ?the earth is but one
country and mankind its citizens.?
School Campus
The school campus of over 30 acres commands a priceless view of Chickly Valley, the Krishna River and surrounding mountains. Facilities include eight dormitories, the largest of which is set apart for girls, the Health Centre, two dining halls, a metal fabrication workshop, an amphitheatre (seating 1500), an audio/visual centre, and physics, chemistry and biology labs, two classroom buildings, vocational workshops, three libraries, art and computer departments, and the gymnasium/auditorium (seating 550). There are also two sports fields and two outdoor basketball courts.
Affiliation
New Era offers education from standard one and
prepares students for the standard ten high school exam under the
Central Board of Secondary Education (C.B.S.E. - New Delhi).
The School also offers the International General Certificate of
Secondary Education (IGCSE) by the University of Cambridge of
Cambridge International Centre. The IGCSE is a two year programme.
After completion of standard 8 a student may opt for standard 9 of
CBSE or IGCSE.
Admission
New admissions are for standard 1 till standard 9. No
students are admitted to standard 10.
A prospectus kit along with admission forms has to be purchased.
Rupees Two Thousand (Rs. 2000/-) will be charged for the kit and the
Entrance examination.
For standards I to VII students will be tested in Maths and English; for standards VIII and IX they will be tested in Maths, English and Science(Physics, Chemistry & Biology).The test can be taken on any one day begninning at 9:30 a.m.
Extra Curricular Activities
Vocational training classes include: advanced computer, art & sculpture, auto mechanics, baking, basic electricity, beauty culture, candle making, ceramic painting, dance, fashion designing, mushroom culture, general knowledge (G.K.) and brain teasers, screen printing, secretarial work, tie, dye and batik, toy making, welding & fabrication, and woodworking & carpentry. Secondly there are recreational outings, camp-outs, song and dance presentations, talent shows, debates, inter-house elocution competitions, class parties and regular service programmes. Also educational field trips take students to visit farms, factories, art galleries, historical places, planetariums, places of worship, museums and science centres. The students also travel to participate in sports, dance, music, art and science competitions.
Sports Activities
Primary children have early morning exercise and afternoon games. The middle school and secondary students have early morning jogging and other exercises. Sports clubs (for middle school and Secondary) give students a long-term practice in the game of their choice: cricket, hockey, football, volleyball, basketball, aerobics, gymnastics, karate, and badminton. Besides increasing the strength and levels of ability in the children, the Sports Department aims to develop in them discipline, self-confidence, co-operation, teamwork and good sportsmanship.
