About School
The G.D.Birla Memorial School is the manifestation of a dream in the lush green surroundings of Ranikhet at an altitude of 5500 feet, projecting a view of 720 kms of snow capped Himalayan ranges. School Campus
The school is located at a distance of 5 kms from Ranikhet which is 360 kms from Delhi, with the nearest railway station Kathgodam just 85 kms. from Ranikhet. The Birla School is situated on a north facing gentle hill slope at an altitude of 5500 feet surrounded by magnificent snow capped Himalayan peak. Spread in a campus of twenty acres, the school has modern compact buildings with facilities for games and co-curricular activities besides well equipped with audio-visual facilities which is a unique feature. The school has a 13 bedded hospital with a qualified resident Medical Officer.
Affiliation
Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi and conducts the All India Secondary School Examinations (Class X) and the All India Senior School Certificate Examination (Class XII).
Admission
The school admits boys from class IV to IX and in XI.
Registration for admission opens in October. Submission of the
registration form however does not guarantee admission. Applicants
will be required to appear for an admission test. The date and venue
will be intimated at the time of registration. Selected candidates
must produce the transfer certificate from the school last attended at
the time of admission.
Admission to class XI, which is provisional till the declaration of
the Board results, is granted after the declaration of the results.
No admissions are allowed to class X and XII.
Extra Curricular Activities
The school encourages students to develop their interests in music, drama, debates, photography, painting, book craft, sketching, woodwork, clay modelling, gardening, electronics, aero-modelling, sculpture, environment studies and foreign languages. A number of clubs and societies are available to the students which include the UN Club, The English and Hindi Literary Societies, The General Knowledge Club, The Star Gazers Club and The Wall Magazine Club. Students are encouraged to join the tours organized during the breaks by the school authorities to places of educational, historical and industrial importance.
Sports Activities
The school offers a variety of games and sports with
three cemented cricket pitches, two tennis & squash courts, three
basket ball courts and snooker. Hockey & football are also played as
seasonal games. Basketball is the main game, a qualified basketball
coach teaches them various techniques of the game. Besides these, we
have a large modern gymnasium equipped with a multi trainer. The gym
is used as a skating rink when required. The boys are also taught
equestrian skills. A qualified instructor trains the boys in Taekwando,
a martial art of self defence. All boarding houses have facilities for
table tennis and other indoor games like chess, carrom etc.
Boys are also taken for week long mountaineering and rock-climbing
courses at Nainital conducted by a recognized Mountaineering
Institute. House picnics and treks/educational tours are also
organised.
