About BHU PMT 2009

The Banaras Hindu University will hold All India Competitive Written Test for admission to MBBS course in 2 stages: PMT-2009 SCREENING and PMT-2009 MAIN, and to BDS / BAMS / B. Pharm. and B.Pharm.(Ay.) courses in 1 stage: PMT-2009 Screening.

PMT-2009 SCREENING shall be held to screen candidates for eligibility to take PMT-2009 MAIN examination for MBBS. For BDS / BAMS / B.Pharm. / B.Pharm(Ay.) courses, candidates will be selected on the basis of their merit in the PMT 2009 Screening.

BHU PMT 2009 Registration Procedure

Prescribed Application Form along with the Information Booklet for PMT-2009 can be obtained:

BY CASH : on payment of Rs. 1000/- (Rs. 600/- for SC/ST candidates) from the following branches of Indian Post Office.
(i) VARANASI – (1) BHU Sub Post Office, near Central School (2) Varanasi HPO, near Kotwali Police Station, Vishvesvarganj and (3) Varanasi Cantt. HO, near TV Station (ii) DELHI–(1) Delhi GPO, Connaught Place, Gole Dakghar (2) New Delhi Head Office, near Kashmiri Gate (iii) LUCKNOW – GPO, Hazaratganj (iv) KANPUR – HO, Civil Lines, Bara Chauraha, Mal Road (v) KOLKATA – GPO, Dalhousie Square (vi) HYDERABAD – GPO, Aabidas (vii) NAGPUR – HPO, Civil Lines (viii) MUMBAI– GPO, CST Railway Station (ix) JAIPUR – GPO, near Jaipur Railway Station (x) RANCHI – GPO, near Shaheed Chowk (xi) CHANDIGARH – GPO, Sector 17 (xii) CHENNAI – GPO, near Rajaji Salai (xiii) BHOPAL – GPO, Royal Market (xiv) PATNA – GPO, near Patna Railway Station.

BY POSTAL CHANNEL : From the Office of the Director (PMT-Cell), Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi-221 005 by sending a written request through Registered Post along with Crossed Demand Draft/Bankers Cheque (MICR only) of Rs. 1100/- (Rs. 700/- for SC/ST candidates) of a Nationalized Bank, drawn in favour of “The Director, Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU” payable at Varanasi. Application form will be sent by Speed / Registered Post. However, Institute will not be responsible for any loss or postal delay. The request for application form must include the name and address of the candidate, and full particulars of the enclosed DD/BC (write candidate’s name and address on the back of DD). Two self-addressed, preferably typed, white paper slips of 10 cm × 6 cm size MUST also accompany it. The ENVELOP containing requisition for PMT application form should be super scribed “Request for Application for PMT-2009, BHU”. Last date of requisition for PMT form by post is Wednesday, the 18th February 2009. Incomplete/non-cashable Draft (under amount/unsigned/ without Bank Code No. & Seal) shall not be accepted.

Application form duly completed must be sent through Registered Post so as to reach THE DIRECTOR (PMT CELL), INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES, BANARAS HINDU UNIVERSITY, VARANASI-221 005.


BHU PMT 2009 Eligibility

QUALIFICATIONS - Passed Intermediate, 10+2 or equivalent examination in English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Zoology + Botany) taken together;

(i) For MBBS/BDS/BAMS/B.Pharm.(Ay.) – A minimum of 50% for general and 40% aggregate marks for OBC/SC/ST candidates;

(ii) For B.Pharm. – A minimum of 60% marks for general & OBC and 55% aggregate marks for SC/ST candidates. Candidates appearing in qualifying examination may also apply..

AGE: Completed 17 years but not crossed 25 years as on 31st December, 2009 (Candidates born after 1st January, 1993 and on or before 31st December, 1984 need not apply)


Number of Seats & Distribution

  • M.B.B.S.(63 seats) : General - 42; OBC – 7; SC – 9 and ST – 5
  • BDS and B.Pharm. (28 seats each): General – 19; OBC – 3; SC – 4 and ST – 2
  • BAMS (57 seats) : General – 36; Foreign National – 3; OBC – 6; SC – 8 and ST – 4
  • B.Pharm.(Ay.) (Paid seats, 30): General – 15; OBC – 8; SC – 5 and ST – 2

* Three percent seats are reserved for Physically challenged candidates in all the categories of the above courses.


Test Centers

PMT - 2009 Screening shall be held at Varanasi, Delhi, Kolkata, and Hyderabad Centres. PMT-2009 MAIN examination for MBBS course will be held at Varanasi Centre only.
